A CLASS THAT PROVIDES A REAL SUPPORT TO ITS MEMBERS

The RC 44 Class helps its members by constantly developing innovative solutions in order to facilitate the logistics and reduce the costs. The new partnership with DHL further enhances this support.

The RC 44 Class doesn’t just propose high performance boats, spectacular regattas and great venues. It also helps teams transport their boats & support material from a venue to the next in a safe and timely manner. Indeed, organizing regattas at various new locations is a challenge where boats and equipment need to be moved quickly and safely.

Thanks to the partnership with DHL, the teams benefit from the unparalleled quality of the worlds leading express and logistics provider. This not only includes next day delivery of documents and parcels as well as the transport of fully loaded containers, but also the custom clearances process and other often complicated paperwork needed to transport boats and containers from a country to the next. The Class organization material will also be transported in DHL containers from a venue to the next.

When they started designing the RC 44, Andrej Justin and Russell Coutts immediately included the transportation and storage issues in their thoughts. As a consequence, the stern of the boat is removable to allow the transportation length to be less than 40 feet. The keel fin attachment is also easily removable whilst the carbon mast is assembled in two parts. Therefore all equipment can be stored and transported on a flat deck container which can be transported anywhere in the world.

In parallel, Andrej Justin and Marino Quaiat have designed and built a revolutionary container that not only carries the boat but serves as a cradle once the boat arrives at a regatta venue. All equipment including sails, rudder, keel fin, boom, mast and spares are stored in compartments within the container. The bulb is transported in position under the hull.

After arrival at a regatta venue, four struts are attached to the side of the container, each fitted with a small manual winch. The boat is supported on soft straps which are raised between the struts using the winches, to a position high enough to allow the attachment of the keel fin to the bulb. The hull is then lowered onto the keel after which the rudder and other parts are attached.

"When the team has got its hands around the system, it takes only one day to assemble the RC 44”, comments Andrej Justin. “You only need a crane for twenty minutes when you want to step the mast.”

SPECTATORS AND MEDIA

The RC 44 features a long stern scoop, ideal to host a guest. During regattas – or training sessions - journalists, sponsors and VIP guests can experience the formidable sensations provided by sailing on those high tech boats with top sailors.

The Class’s goal is to get closer to the public, by inviting people to watch the show afloat, racing close to the shore and by giving the public the opportunity to meet with the sailors after the regattas.

The races are short and intense, making them enjoyable whilst not too long to watch for the public.

All the races are covered by a media team that includes professional photographers and TV production. The regatta summaries and results are posted daily on the Class website (www.rc44.com) whilst the TV productions are shown on Seamaster Series, Eurosport, Gillette World Sports, Sailing Channel and many more.
