Back in the lakeside town of Gmunden, Austria for a fifth year, the RC44 Austria Cup kicked off today with the Grand Prix of Gmunden a long distance race along Lake Traunsee from Gmunden to Altmunster and back.
After a couple of practice starts in the morning, the shifty breeze finely settled and filled. The Igor Lah and his Slovenian Team CEEREF took line honors with Team Nika from Russia taking second place.

The home team, AEZ RC44 Sailing Team, got off to a confident start to take third, the team have benefited from three days of intense coaching by 1992 Star Olympic Silver Medallist and America’s Cup legend, Don Cowie (NZL), who just happens to sail onboard CEEREF.
AEZ team strategist, Christian Binder is looking forward to the week ahead: “The training we have done has been fantastic, we are extremely motivated and hope that the conditions are fair so we get the opportunity to show what we are capable of in home waters.”
